Stosunki transatlantyckie w sferze polityki zagranicznej i bezpieczeństwa: kontynuacja czy przełom? Polski punkt widzenia

Transatlantic relations in the area of foreign and security policy: follow-up or break-point? Polish perspective

Abstract

The article concerns issues of relations between the European Union and the United States in the area of foreign and security policy. Assuming that in these relations we have to deal both with rivalry and with cooperation, the Author analyses those phenomena one after another, pointing out their most important characteristics, positive and negative. The analysis is performed from the point of view of strategic national interests of Poland – the country which (together with other recently adopted EU Member States) has played certain role in the way Transatlantic relations develop. The Author concludes that at present we witness a period of obvious evolution of those relations. This may lead to partial mitigation in the most evident areas of dispute between the EU and the USA and to emphasis being put upon factors that bring the whole Western world together, as a result of shared awareness of the need to jointly face the key challenges on the part of contemporary, globalising world.
