Polityka informacyjna Wspólnot i Unii Europejskiej w sprawozdaniach za lata 1958–2007. Część 1. Lata 1958–1992

European Community and Union information policy in the light of the Commission’s annual reports for the years 1958-2007. Part 1. Between 1958-1992

Abstract

The article is the outcome of research carried out on the European Community and Union information policy, based upon 50 European Commission annual reports on the activities of the European Communities or the European Union. The article analyses those parts of the reports which are dedicated to information activities. The aim is to attempt to divide the history of the Union’s information policy into distinct periods. The research is divided into two parts. Part one covers the years between 1958 and 1992, part two regards the years between 1993 and 2007. This article is dedicated to the first part. During the period in question information activities followed the principal political activity of the European Communities. It may be divided into 4 smaller periods: the creation of institutional framework and earliest approaches to information activities (1958-1967); the institutional reform (1968-1972); the quest for a new image of the Communities (1972-1979) and, finally, stabilisation which ultimately led to the Maastricht crisis (1980-1992).
