Rola służb prasowych i audiowizualnych instytucji unijnych w polityce informacyjnej Unii Europejskiej

The role of press and audiovisual services of the Union’s institutions in the EU information policy

Abstract

The EU citizens mostly derive their knowledge on European integration issues from media. This naturally makes media environment the crucial target group of the EU information activities. This paper presents tasks and organisation of press and audiovisual services of the principal EU institutions (the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Council, as well as the Court of Justice and the Court of Auditors). Additionally, an issue of linguistics of these services activities is analysed. Particular attention is paid to Europe by Satellite, EuroNews and Rapid database, seen as examples of great improvement in these activities. The paper also points out weaknesses of this segment of the EU information policy, such as fragmentation of press services of the European Parliament, neglecting attitude of the Council of the European Union to openness of its debates and the lack of clear strategy of cooperation between representations of the European Commission and the information offices of the European Parliament in Member States.
