Relacje UE-Turcja: między współpracą a członkostwem

The EU – Turkey relations: between cooperation and membership

Abstract

Over the recent years the aspect of Ankara’s foreign policy towards its neighbours has become important in relations between the EU and Turkey. Notably, these relations are situated in an area defined by two axes: Turkey’s full membership in the EU, an option favoured by Turkey and the EU’s cooperation with Ankara (called “privileged partnership”), which is Brussels’ priority. The article aims to present the principal reasons from which these different objectives stem, making the entire picture of mutual relations between the parties somewhat paradoxical. It also attempts to present possible alternatives to this “vicious circle” in order to find a solution which might be profitable for both sides involved.
