Healthcare outlays and societies’ health condition in the European Union

Abstract

The publication presents current trends in healthcare budgeting in the European Union and their impact on societies’ health status. The following parameters have been compared: healthcare expenditure per capita, (in USD, PPP), healthcare expenditure as % of GDP and individualexpenses on health (% of total outlays). Presented data demonstrate strong correlation between healthcare expenditure and societies’ health status, measured by: life expectancy, healthy life expectancy (HALE), infant and maternal mortality, morbidity and mortality in cardiovascular diseases and malignant neoplasms as well as epidemiology of tuberculosis.
