Zbigniew Lasocik

Biography

Ph.D., he is Full Professor of law and criminology specialising in human trafficking and prison systems. He serves as the Director of the Centre of Excellence’s Human Traffi cking Studies Centre in the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, at the University of Warsaw. Professor Lasocik has been a visiting scholar of Columbia University in New York, John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, Harvard University in Cambridge and several other universities in the US, UK, and Argentina. In 2019 he conducted research on human trafficking in the US. Mr Lasocik is an expert of the United Nations, the European Commission, the OSCE and Council of Europe and a former member of the UN Subcommittee on the Prevention of Torture in Geneva. He has served as a President of the Polish Section of the International Commission of Jurists in Poland. He has participated in over 60 international fact-finding and assessment missions regarding prisons, torture prevention, human rights and human trafficking. Professor Lasocik was the recipient of a Hołda Human Rights Award in 2015. He is a graduate of criminology, sociology, and legal studies. He is the author of over one hundred and twenty publications (consisting of books, articles and research reports) in criminology, human trafficking, human rights, torture prevention, and prison systems.
