Ulf Zander

Biography

Ulf Zander is a professor of History at Lund University, Sweden. He has written extensively on 20th-century history, with a particular focus on the Holocaust and its aftermath. His work includes “Dire Strait? When the Holocaust Came to Sweden – A Regional Perspective 1943–1945”, in Johannes Heuman and Pontus Rudberg (eds.), Early Holocaust Memory in Sweden: Archives, Testimonies and Reflections (2021), and “In a Land of Dreams: Left-Wing Politics and the Place of the Holocaust in Tage Erlander’s Sweden”, in Jan Gerber, Philipp Graf, and Anna Pollmann (eds.), Geschichtsoptimismus und Katastrophenbewusstsein. Europa nach dem Holocaust (2022). He has also written on history and visual culture, including “The Footprints Frighten Me: Visualisations of Borderline Events”, in Patrick Amsellem (ed.), Memory Matters (2018), and “Interacting with Monuments: Idolatry, Iconoclasm, Iconoclash”, in Johanna Rivano Eckerdal, Rikke Lie Halberg and Hans Dam Christensen (eds.), Glances and Hands on Public Art (2025). His most recent book is “Raoul Wallenberg: Life and Legacy” (2024).
