Biography

Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of International Relations at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Selçuk University, Turkey. He holds a Master’s degree in International Relations, with a thesis examining the European Union’s Security and Defence Policies in relation to Türkiye. He holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Marmara University (Istanbul). His academic expertise is centered on EU-Turkey relations, European Union studies, Europeanisation, and the study of democratisation. His research interests encompass a range of topics, including the European Union, Türkiye-EU relations, transatlantic security relations, democracy and democratisation processes, and civil-military relations. Dr. Afşar has actively contributed to national and international academic forums, presenting his work at numerous conferences and workshops. He has published several articles, book chapters, and edited volumes, and has been involved in the dissemination of scholarly knowledge through academic communications and conference proceedings. Additionally, he has served as the International Students coordinator at Selçuk University. Some of his notable academic publications include: Historical, Theoretical, and Practical Aspects of the European Union and Regional Security, The Evolution of NATO’s Cybersecurity Policy, Europeanisation in Terms of Rational Institutionalism and Sociological Institutionalism, The Relationship Between Democratisation and Socio-Economic Development: A Study on OECD Countries, Contemporary Political Trends, E-Democracy: A Hope for Direct Democracy, and Contrasting Democratic Trajectories: A Comparative Analysis of Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
