Biography
PhD, has been a lecturer at the Centre for Europe, Warsaw University since 2004. Dr Kurkowska specialises in the history of ideas, customs, and mentality (with a particular emphasis on those of the 19th century), the issues of mass culture and European cinematography, as well as the didactics of history. Lately, she has focussed her research on the mutual dependencies between film and history to reflect on the role of a film as a source of knowledge regarding the past and present, the mechanisms behind cultural memory, the stereotypes of historical consciousness of a society, as well as the specificity of European culture and its transformation over the last 100 years.
