Mehmedin Tahirović

Biography

Prof. Dr. – Retired Colonel Armed Forces of Montenegro to give him his full title, is a former national military representative of Montenegro at SHAPE (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe), NATO, Mons, Belgium and a professor on Humanistic Studies at the University of Donja Gorica, Podgorica, in Montenegro. He graduated from the Military Academy of the Ground Forces in Belgrade, Serbia in 1981. Dr Tahirovic was awarded his master’s degree after he graduated from the Faculty of Law in Podgorica, Montenegro in 2005 on the subject: “Civil Control of Security Forces in the Area of the Former SFRY with a Special Aspect in Montenegro”. He received his doctorate at the University of Mostar’s Faculty of Philosophy in 2011 on the topic: “Montenegro and the Euro-Atlantic Security Integration of Montenegro in NATO”. As an associate professor, he has been engaged at the University of Donja Gorica in Podgorica (https://hs.udg.edu.me/predavaci/) since 2011 in the following subjects: crisis management, defense policy, regional security, strategies of security, and global security. During his long career, most of his time he spent as a lecturer at Belgrade’s Military Academy, but also served as a scientific researcher at the Institute for Strategic Studies in Belgrade, and a lecturer at the Police Academy in Danilovgrad, Montenegro. He was professionally engaged in various functional positions in the Yugoslav People’s Army, the Police of Montenegro, and the Ministry of Defense of Montenegro. From 2008 to 2017, he was a member of the Communication Team of the Government of Montenegro for NATO. He is author of the Communication Strategy about the Euro-Atlantic Integration of Montenegro (2008), and a participant in the drafting of many other Governmental documents in the field of defense and security. As a scientific researcher, he has published three books and 20 scientific papers in many domestic and international magazines. Dr Tahirovic is also the founder and has been the president of the Marshal Center Alumni Association of Montenegro since February 2009.
