Jonathan Paquette

Biography

Ph.D., is full professor at the School of Political Studies, University of Ottawa. He is Chairholder of the International Francophonie Research Chair on Cultural Heritage Policy and Director of the Collège des chaires de recherche sur le monde francophone at the University of Ottawa. His work focuses on cultural and heritage policy. In 2019, he published Cultural Policy and Federalism (Palgrave), and in 2021, he co-edited Canadian Cultural Policy in Transition (Routledge) and Cultural Roads and Itineraries: Concepts and Cases (Palgrave). In recent years, his research has documented the place and use of heritage and heritage institutions in cultural diplomacy, from both historical and comparative perspectives. His most recent research funding from the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) as principal investigator includes Culture and Linguistic Minorities: The Changing Landscapes of Accountability in the Arts (2022–2026), France and the Restitution of Cultural Works to South Korea (2024–2028), and Cultural Diplomacy and Transnationalism: Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums (2025–2026).
