Alojzy Z. Nowak

Biography

Ph.D., is a full professor and has been the Rector of the University of Warsaw since 2020 and is currently serving his second term for the years 2024–2028. He graduated from the Faculty of Foreign Trade at the Main School of Planning and Statistics (today’s SGH Warsaw School of Economics). He continued his education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA), the University of Exeter (UK), in Antwerp, and at the Freie Universität Berlin. In 2002, he obtained the title of Professor of Economic Sciences. Prof. Nowak has lectured at universities in France, the United Kingdom (including the University of Cambridge), the United States, Russia, China, Korea, and South Africa. He is a member of several scientific councils, including the Institute of New Structural Economics at Peking University. His academic expertise encompasses international economics and finance, banking, risk management in financial markets, as well as integration and globalisation processes. He has been affiliated with the University of Warsaw since 1984. He has held various positions, including as Head of the Department of International Economic Relations and the Department of National Economy at the Faculty of Management, as well as Director of the Centre for Europe at the University of Warsaw. From 1999 to 2006, he served as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Management, later becoming its Dean from 2006 to 2012, and again from 2016 to 2020. Between 2012 and 2016, he was Vice-Rector of the University of Warsaw for Research and International Relations.
